Most Popular Cuisine Type in Each City and State in America
Have you ever been to a new city and noticed a Mexican restaurant or a taco truck at every corner, but you struggled to find a good one back home? Let’s discovery the most popular type of cuisine in each American city.
Excluding “American”, the following map shows most popular cuisine type in each city.
Italian cuisine includes multiple types of Pizza & Pasta Shops and is most popular in the Northeast. This makes sense due to the high concentration of the Italian population in this area.
On the other side, Mexican cuisine is most popular in the South and Southwest. This can also be explained with the Hispanic ethnicity map.
Japanese restaurants including Ramen, Sushi, Izakaya, etc. are most popular in Hawaii while Chinese is the most popular cuisine in San Francisco. Latin American cuisines like Cuban, Peruvian, Costa Rican, etc. are most popular in Miami. Unsurprisingly, Southern cuisine is most popular in the Southern cities like Memphis, Charlotte and Nashville. These are all consistent by the demographics of each area.
So what if we leave “American” in, it would be most popular in every city except Miami. It’s not a surprise since 70% of Miami population is Hispanic.
At the state level, Mexican and Italian are most popular cuisines in most states except Hawaii. Japanese cuisine is still the most popular type in the state.
Below is a more comprehensive ethnicity map of America for reference.
